Speaker Bio

Sheila Morago is executive director of the Arizona Indian Gaming Association and is a member of the Gila River Indian community in Arizona. Previously, Morago served as director of public relations for the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA). She was recruited from NIGA to be the tribal liaison for Arizonans for Fair Gaming & Indian Self Reliance, the Prop 202 campaign, where she was responsible for coordinating all efforts between the campaign offices, the 17 tribes belonging to the coalition and the tribal casino operations. Morago also designed and managed the successful outreach effort for Prop 202 in Arizona Indian Country. She began her career in tribal gaming in 1994 when she was appointed director of marketing for the Gila River Casinos where she created the marketing department for this multimillion-dollar enterprise and opened two successful tribal casinos. Morago also was vice president of national relations for Initial Impressions based in Tempe, Ariz., where she was responsible for political and public relations for tribal and non-tribal clients.

Many casino companies and gaming tribes invest great effort into being good community citizens. This session will emphasize the necessity of casinos working together, whether tribal or commercial, the importance of a jurisdictional gaming association, the benefit of membership on state and local councils and strategies for getting employees involved in order to foster positive community feedback.
